1. How do I use this site?

   Start playing the game!
   

   1. Select the level to "White Belt" and the mode to "Regular". Play till your percentage of right answers is very high.
   2. Now change the mode to "Jeopardy". See if you can guess the word given a meaning. Play till you score high.
   3. Use the list of words that you made a mistake with in the "Report Card" section. Learn and practice these words.
   4. Now move up to the next level belt and repeat the process

2. What will I get out of this site?

   Your vocabulary will improve!
   First, for the student who is studying for the SAT or the ACT, the GRE and even the preparatory PSAT exam, you will learn the core words that you need for the exam and as you progress up the levels, you will build a substantial vocabulary.
   If you are not giving the test, or have already given the test, the vocabulary improvements will help with your image. People judge you by your vocabulary, so you will shine with your improved vocabulary.

3. What is this web site about?

   VocabKing attempts to make learning vocabulary words fun by incorporating it into a game.

4. Why is this a better way to learn?

   When learning is built into a game, you learn a lot faster. This is an innovative way to teach. The education is part of the game and learning became fun. Hopefully you have fun and expand your vocabulary at the same time.

5. Why the name "VocabKing"?

   After using this site on a regular basis, your vocabulary will expand. Using the "Report Card" page, you will keep track of your mistakes and relearn words where you have made a mistake. So, at the end you should be the King (or Queen) of the Vocab, hence the name VocabKing.

6. Whats with the belts?

   When you start learning a martial art like Tae-Kwon-Do you are first taught a few basic moves like the round-house kick. This is something you use at all levels. As you progress, you will learn more moves, but you will always use the basic moves.
   In a similar way, the white belt section has just around 200 words. These are the words you have to know for any testing. When you start getting the majority of words correctly at a belt level, it is time to move on to the next belt level. At the next level, the Yellow belt, you will have all of the White belt words as well as additional Yellow belt words. An so on.At the final level, the black belt, you will have more than 5000 words. These black belt words include all of the words from the previous belts.
   

7. What is the "Mode"?

   There are two modes that you can play the game in.

   • Regular Mode: In this case you are given a word and a choice of 4 meanings as answers. This is a good mode to learn new words
   • Jeopardy Mode: Like the classic game you are given the answer you pick the right question. In this case you are given a word-meaning and a choice of 4 words as answers. This is a good mode since something like this can be useful for sentence completion

8. Why does hangman end after 6 errors?

   I have limited the number of errors for the game to end to 6. When I tried it with the traditional 11 errors, the game took too long.

9. How do you play the streak game?

   This tests how many rights you can get in a row. First wrong and the game is over. This is for those folks who find the 6 errors in hangman too much.
